P2X Manager (Power to Hydrogen/Ammonia)

  • Hybrid
    • London , Greater London, United Kingdom

Job description

JERA Nex is a company created by JERA to scale renewable energy for a sustainable future. JERA Nex combines the resilience of JERA, one of the world’s largest electricity producers, with the agility and focus of a dedicated renewables business that can act at the pace required to drive the global energy transition.

JERA Nex invests in, currently owns and operates a portfolio of renewable energy assets, with a portfolio over 3GW that includes offshore wind, onshore wind and solar, as well as battery storage. This includes Parkwind, its wholly owned subsidiary. Headquartered in London, and with centres of excellence in Belgium, Japan, Taiwan and the US, our team of more than 300 renewable and energy industry experts combines global knowhow and experience with the local expertise and knowledge necessary to deliver successful projects.

In order to support JERA’s ambition in Renewables, we manage a large number of investment opportunities, tenders, bids, M&A, greenfield developments and highly complex and capex intensive projects and joint ventures that increasingly (but not exclusively) include P2X. We also receive an even larger number of opportunities to participate in and need to carefully select those we pursue and those we do not. Specifically, on P2X, JERA is actively exploring over 15 ongoing projects around the world where the overall objective is to create low carbon fuels including grey, blue or green ammonia and hydrogen. JERA Nex will be involved where these projects include a component of renewable energy electricity generation as part of an overall integrated project or projects.

The P2X Manager will report into the VP of Onshore and have a range of oversight functions with respect to any projects that involve the creation of “green molecules” and must demonstrate the capacity to manage, oversee and prioritise this pipeline in a self-starting mode, which will require extensive multi-tasking and balancing competing timelines and priorities. Close collaboration with the wider JERA business (and in particular the Low Carbon Fuels business) is essential to the successful delivery of this role.

The role will be based in London and involve some travel and working with our teams and extended JERA business units in Japan and in other regions.

As a direct report to the VP for Onshore, you will be responsible for effectively and efficiently managing the P2X pipeline of JERA Nex at various development stages to secure the achievement of the 2035 target, and to manage ongoing and subsequent investments, projects and pipeline related activities, and creating a coherent strategy on how we should develop P2X projects and in doing so coordinate efficiently with the wider JERA business. This role will also include the origination and screening of new opportunities as they arise.

Job Description

In addition to managing the overall P2X pipeline, you will also be responsible for directly managing and coordinating inputs relating to the bidding, partnering, M&A, and tendering activities of strategic interest to JERA Nex and will actively contribute to reviewing, assessing as well as potentially sourcing new P2X business opportunities and helping to develop a strategy for how we participate in P2X projects, particularly those where the potential role is fully integrated across the value chain. This strategy will help to inform which opportunities we consider (including the role and stake) and how we would build a team to deliver these, as there is not one at present. While not significant at present, we expect this activity to grow and increase over time.

What you will do

  • Managing and/or overseeing JERA Nex’s P2X pipeline, including monthly reporting, as well as updates for senior management.
  • Coordinating with project leads and teams, as well as other business units and regions within JERA.
  • Coordinating, preparing, and compiling pipeline information including budget, timeline, progress activities and risks.
  • Development (and regular review) of a P2X strategy and investment criteria for JERA Nex.
  • Screening of new P2X opportunities, including screening note development and presentation, scoring of opportunities, assessing them against our investment criteria, and presenting this on a regular basis.
  • Preparing relevant internal documents for the management and/or board as required, or in other cases helping the team compile and reviewing/coordination such compilation.
  • Representing JERA Nex in interactions and negotiations with counterparties, co-developers/co-investors, advisors, consultants and supply chain.
  • Attend relevant industry events representing JERA Nex, continuing to build a knowledge base of P2X within JERA Nex, disseminating this within the wider JERA Nex team and JERA organisation.
